The Sovnarkom of Massachusetts

"What has not ended is resolution and determination of members of the U.S. Senate to continue to resist any Neanderthal that is nominated by this president of the United States for any court"
-- Ted Kennedy, Senator of Massachusetts
I suppose I'm one of those people Teddy would class as a Neanderthal. I'm not really upset, but I thought that one of the rules of political correctness forbade anyone outside of a group from speaking poorly about that group. Well fuggetaboutit, expecting logical consistency from a liberal is a vain hope.

So what sort of judges would a progressive like Teddy approve of? Could it be judges that currently sit the Supreme Court of Massachusetts? Well, judging from the relative silence of the Democratic contenders to the national throne about the recent decision of that court we really can't tell that these presidential hopefuls actually would approve of homosexual marriage per se, but I'm betting that if homosexual marriage were more popular with hoi polloi, they would be singing praises for SCOMA.

But there's more to this decision than progressive Teddy dare dream of. The Sovnarkom of Massachusetts demanded that the Massachussetts legislature design appropriate legislation to legalize same sex marriage. The forms of democracy must be observed in any Democratic People's Republic. But of course!

What is the fate of this popular progressive rule? I suspect they may have gone a bridge too far.

Gimme, Gimme, Gimme

This latest Soapbox is a recycling of a long standing theme of mine. Here, I have an old usenet post on this theme from 1994 (some ideas carried over, but this is a complete re-write).
